Hater VS “Opinionator”

(Click Post Title to Enlarge)

All too often, honest opinionators get confused for being a hater and vice-versa (because haters do exist). Where does the barrier break between being a hater and an opinionator? Let’s take a look into it…

If you’re an opinionator, what’s the lasting impression that you want to leave? An opinion…right? Not only will you comment on what you like, you’ll explain WHY you don’t like what you don’t without sounding erratic. Take a look at this critic for “Iron Man 2” (- Via  RottenTomatoes.com): It reads:

Downey’s head and heart are in the right place, but the movie is more in pieces than whole, and more about iron than about men.

In her full review, she gave the movie credit where she thought it was due before ultimately explaining why she didn’t like the movie as a whole. THAT’S an “opinionator”! Now let’s take a look at examples of HATERS! The first thing that you’ll notice about HATERS is that they’re easy to find. In a crowd of compliments and praise lies the lonely hate comment. This is the comment section of a YouTube video of  Greyson Chance, only 12-years-old by the way, who received much praise for his cover of Lady Gaga‘s “Paparazzi”. (video here) Can you see the HATER trait? DENIAL! HATERS tend to deny talent–even if it shows no sign of fraud–because they are, quite simply, awed! Here’s another example… …Booing. Not only is booing the most insensitive way to critique someone, it’s the least rationalized. If it’s easy to boo, it should be just as easy to explain why. Booing without an explanation is baseless and unreasoned and shouldn’t be heard… (Above screenshot from a comment on a Soulja Boy video on YouTube) Finally, the last two traits of HATERS… …Anonymity and insults (also the obsessive use of CAPS when online. It’s usually to give the image that the writer is yelling or angry). The above image is a screenshot from Twitter. The HATER (using Twitter’s default anonymous photo) goes on to tweet:

Why insult somebody if you simply don’t like their work? Because you, my friend, are a HATER! Though, I can understand why you’d want to remain anonymous; I’d be ashamed of being a HATER too. 🙂

So there you have it folks. I just broke down the barrier between being an opinionator and a HATER!

Let’s analyze one of my commenters:

This screenshot comes from my post Dear Journal: Entry # 1

It reads:

Let’s begin our analysis.

1) Booing? Check!

2) Remaining anonymous? Check!

3) Insulting? Check!

4) Obsessive use of CAPS? Check!

5) Unreasoning? Check!

Congratulations Anonymous!!

You, buddy…

…are a certified HATER! 🙂

  1. Lmfao! I’m glad you brought this topic up, because I get so tired of people saying that “people are hating on them” when it’s not all about jealousy.

  2. This is hilarious…….I’ve said many times that there is a difference between the two. People so want to retire the word Hater but what for? they exsist…what the hell else are we supposed to call them?
